Message from the President

Kumusta kayong lahat!
Hello everyone. It is my honour to serve as President of the Filipino Canadian Association of Kamloops and District. FCAK is a non-profit Arts and Cultural Association that has been in existence for close to 50 years. From inception, passionate filipino members have been meeting at each others’ homes planning events such as Barrio Fiesta, Philippine Independence Day, representation at Canada Day and cultural seasonal events at Christmas time continues to exist with the same passion in current officers. The intentions, hard working ethics, resourcefulness and generous spirit of filipinos are reflected in the success of the organization and promote the love for their country and traditions. I am proud to be one of the many who call themselves Filipino Canadian.

There is a growing population of filipinos immigrating from the Philippines and various parts of world, to work and live with their families here in the central interior of BC. Our association invites people of filipino ethic origin, their spouses/partners and family members to become an active member of our dynamic Philippine Arts and Cultural Group and discover the many benefits in joining our community.

Our cultural events and activities are open to everyone in the community who wish to learn and experience Philippine traditions, language, customs, cuisine, arts and crafts or just socialize and experience the warm friendly nature of filipinos. Come and participate in our regularly scheduled folk dancing lessons and Philippine craft making sessions in preparation for major yearly events such as our Barrio Fiesta, Independence Day, Philippine representation at Canada Day in Riverside Park and Christmas Celebration.

The filipino community in Kamloops continues to be a vibrant group and prove that successful ventures can only be obtained by strong teamwork, commitment to improving community, country and the world for the betterment of everyone, especially our future generations to come. In the Philippines, the word for
this generous spirit is…Bayanihan.

My deepest gratitude goes to those who have supported our association during this current year and over several years the Fil-Can has been in existence, whether its in monetary donation, volunteering your talents, time, skills, experience or education, salamat po.
